[Other names] Palm bark (Bencao Shiyi), palm hair (Puji Fang), palm skin (Bencao Qiuyuan).

[Source] It is the leaf sheath fiber of palm, a plant of the palm family. It can be harvested throughout the year, usually in September and October when the fibrous sheaths are peeled off, the remaining skin is removed and the skin is dried in the sun.

[Original form] Palm (Compendium of Materia Medica), also known as: palm (Classic of Mountains and Seas), palm tree (Yang Fu's Records of Strange Things), palm tree, sedge, and Dinghai needle.

[Habitat distribution] Cultivated near villages, streams, fields, hills or mountains. Distributed in Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Yunnan, Gansu and other places.

[Properties] The palm bark that has been aged for a long time is called "aged palm bark". The products include used petiole parts or waste palm ropes. The outer fibers of the petioles are shaved off and dried, which are called "palm bones"; waste palm ropes are mostly taken from old palm beds, which are called "old palm".

[Chemical composition] Palm hair, leaves and flowers are rich in tannins.

[Preparation] Palm charcoal: Take clean palm peel, put it in a pot, cover it with a pot with a slightly smaller diameter, stick a piece of white paper on the pot, seal the joint of the two pots with yellow mud, calcine on a low fire until the white paper turns brown, then stop firing and take it out after it cools down.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, neutral.

【Entry into meridians】 "Essential Chinese Medicines" says: "Enters the liver and spleen meridians."

【Functions and indications】Astringent and hemostatic. Treat vomiting blood, nosebleed, bloody stool, hematuria, hematuria, dysentery, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, wounds, and scabies.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian; grind into powder, 1 to 2 qian. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle.
