[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Epilobium yunnanensis of the Onagraceae family.

[Original form] Perennial upright herb, up to 60cm tall. The taproot is short and thick, and the fibrous roots are thin. The stem is cylindrical, hollow, often purple-red, with unclear ridges, and surrounded by soft and glandular hairs; it has branches. There are no basal leaves, and the stem leaves are opposite, alternate in the upper part, green, often turning red during flowering; sessile or nearly sessile; the leaf blade is lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, 2-6cm long, 0.5-1.5cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, with fine teeth on the margin, gradually narrowed at the base, smooth on both sides, and only covered with soft hairs on the veins and margins. The flowers are bisexual, solitary in leaf axils, with long stalks; the calyx is deeply 4-lobed, with lobes lanceolate; there are 4 petals, which are lavender or purple-red, obovate, with concave apex; there are 8 stamens, unequal in length, with short filaments, and anthers hidden in the corolla; the ovary is inferior, 4-chambered, and the stigma is 4-lobed. The capsule is slender, up to 6 cm long and about 1.5 mm wide; the seeds are numerous and small; with a bunch of white silky hairs at the tip. Flowering period is July-August.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; astringent; cool; slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and dampness; promote blood circulation and stop bleeding; detoxify and reduce swelling. Mainly used for rheumatic pain, traumatic bleeding, sores, swelling and infection

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g; or soaked in wine. For external use: apply appropriate amount, grind into powder and sprinkle; or mash and apply on the affected area.
