The stem is woody, with enlarged nodes, and the middle part of the stem often has six ridges. The leaves are opposite, trifoliate, with ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate leaflets and serrated margins. Flowers white or yellowish white. Achenes are oblate with white pappus.
