Putuo Nanxing is usually used as a medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine. This is also because of the medicinal value of Putianxing itself, so today I will tell you some relevant knowledge about Putianxing. [Source] Medicinal material source: The tuber of Arisaema consanguineum, a plant of the Araceae family. [Original form] Putuo Nanxing, perennial herb. The tuber is flat spherical with small bulbs. The scale leaves gradually narrow upwards, and the inner ones are about 12 cm long. There are 2 or 1 leaves, with petioles 15-30cm long, 7-8mm thick, sheathed in the lower 1/3, tubular in sheath shape, and truncate at the mouth; the leaf blade is 3-divided, with lobes sessile or with short petioles, the middle lobe is broadly elliptic, 16-23cm long, the lateral lobes are oblique, oblong or elliptic, 15-18cm long, and more than 10cm wide, with acuminate tips and conical tips 1-1.5cm long, the lateral veins are about 1cm apart, and the aggregate veins are 5mm apart from the margin. The inflorescence stalk is shorter than the petiole. The spathe tube is green, broadly inverted conical, 3.6-4cm long, 1.8-2cm thick at the top, with more or less wide ears at the throat, the inner surface of the ears is dark purple and rolled outwards; the eaves are bent downward into a helmet shape, and the front eaves have an ovate lip that droops and bends outwards at the tip. The spadix is unisexual, the male inflorescence is sessile, cylindrical, about 1.5cm long and 8mm thick, the male flowers are spirally arranged, with 2 anthers, short stalks, 2 chambers, the chambers are short oval, and the apical pore is transversely fissured; the female inflorescence is spherical, about 1.5cm long and wide, the ovary is oval, gradually narrowing at the top; each appendage is rod-shaped or oblong-conical, 3.5-4.5cm long, obtuse at the apex, thickened to 0.9-1.2cm at the base, with a stalk 5-10mm long, gradually narrowing upwards, and 6-9mm thick at the top. Flowering period is April. [Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in the shade and wet places under the forest. [Pharmacological action] Intraperitoneal injection of 1g/kg of Putiannanxing chloroform or methanol extract into mice showed symptoms of increased muscle tone, erect tail, and deep and slow breathing, which may be related to the inhibition of vasomotor and respiratory centers. It is poisonous if ingested accidentally and can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, and even blindness. This may be due to the drug's special toxicity to retinal cells. In severe cases, it can lead to heart failure, ventricular fibrillation, respiratory paralysis, coma and acute liver necrosis. If the above symptoms occur, induce vomiting, gastric lavage and catharsis. Adenosine triphosphate, coenzyme A, niacin pyritinol, etc. can be used, and a low-fat, high-carbohydrate and high-protein diet should be given.
