【Original form】Climbing shrub. It often climbs on other objects using its hooked peduncle. Leaves are alternate; leaf blades are papery, oblong or broadly lanceolate, 6-16m long, 2.5-6cm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, cuneate at base. 1-2 flowers, born on a woody hooked peduncle, light green or light yellow, fragrant; 3 sepals, green, ovate, about 8mm long; 6 petals, 2 whorls, oblong-lanceolate, 3-4.5cm long, contracted near the base; many stamens, close together, connective triangular; many carpels, oblong, each with 2 ovules, stigma linear-oblong. The fruit is oval, 2.5-4cm long, and several are clustered on the receptacle. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from May to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: mostly cultivated, a few are wild.

[Chemical composition] The root contains yingzhaosu A, yingzhaosu B, yingzhaosu C and yingzhaosu D. The stems and bark contain liriodenine, atherospermidihe and artacinatine.
