Leaves are opposite; petiole is 2-3cm long and coarsely hairy; leaves are papery or thinly leathery, elliptical or oblong, 10-15cm long, 3-5cm wide, with acute or acuminate tip, tail 1-1.5cm long, and more than 1/3 of the margin with 7-9 pairs of fine serrations; veins are significantly concave on the upper side and convex on the lower side, covered with coarse hairs, and lateral veins are connected to a net before reaching the leaf margin. Dioecious, male inflorescence is a racemose panicle, born at the top of the twigs, 8-10cm long, all parts are purple-red, densely covered with soft hairs when young, and the upper part of the soft hairs is slightly purple-red; sepals are small, slightly 4-lobed, petals are 4, oblong, with a pointed tail at the tip 1.5-2mm long; stamens are 4, filaments are thick; disk is fleshy, slightly 4-lobed. The female inflorescence is a panicle, 3-5cm long, densely covered with coarse hairs and reddish-brown soft hairs, and all parts are purple-red; the sepals and petals of the female flowers are similar to those of the male flowers; the ovary is inferior, covered with coarse hairs, the style is thick, the stigma is slightly 2-lobed, and the flower has a joint and 2 bracts below. The fruit is green, sparsely hairy, dark red when ripe, ovate-oblong, 1-1.2 cm long, with style and stigma persisting at the tip of the fruit. The flowering period is from March to May, and the fruiting period is from October to May of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests and mixed evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 1500-2300m.
