[Source] Medicinal material source: The cones of spruce, Qinghai spruce, large-fruited green pole and green pole of Pinaceae.

[Original form] 1. A tall tree, up to 45m high. The bark is light gray-brown, cracked into irregular scales or slightly thicker pieces that fall off. The twigs are sparsely or densely covered with short soft hairs, or are glabrous. The one-year-old branches are light brown-yellow, brown-yellow or light reddish-brown, with white powder on the pulvinus, and the two- or three-year-old branches are gray-brown. Brown or light brown-gray; winter buds are conical, resinous, and swollen at the base. The leaves of the main branches extend radially, the leaves on the side branches extend upward, and the leaves on the bottom and on both sides bend upward. They are quadrangular and strip-shaped, 1-2 cm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, slightly curved, and quadrangular in cross section. There are stomata lines on all four sides, 4-8 on each side on the top, and 4-6 on each side on the bottom. The flowers are unisexual and monoecious; the cones are cylindrical-oblong or cylindrical, gradually narrowing at the upper end, green before maturity, light brown or chestnut brown when mature, 5-16cm long, 2.5-3.5cm in diameter; the middle seed scales are obovate, with the entire apex, or the apex of the cone base or the middle and lower seed scales is two-lobed or slightly concave; the bracts are triangular-spatulate; the seeds are obovate, about 1.5cm long with the wings, and the seed wings are light brown. The flowering period is April-May, and the cones mature in September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Growing under coniferous forests at an altitude of 2400-3600m, or in pure forests.
