Is Dendrobium cool or hot?

Dendrobium is a commonly used medicinal material in traditional Chinese medicine. Fresh Dendrobium can be fried or eaten directly. However, people don’t know much about Dendrobium, so they don’t dare to eat it casually. So, is Dendrobium cool or hot in nature? Dendrobium is slightly cold in nature and can nourish yin and clear away heat. It is a pure natural health product. People with cold body should best not eat it. Normal people can measure the specific amount of consumption according to their own constitution.

Usage of Dendrobium

When soaking Dendrobium in water, you must pay attention to the dosage. If you put too much Dendrobium at one time and cause overdose, it will cause serious consequences such as Dendrobium poisoning. Generally speaking, for healthy people and sub-healthy people, the daily intake of fresh products can be controlled at 10g to 20g. The amount of dry product taken should be controlled between 3g and 5g. When there is no measuring scale, we can estimate the amount of Dendrobium by quantity. Under normal circumstances, each person should use one fresh strip per day, and no more than 5 pieces should be soaked in water each time. The weight of Yunnan Dendrobium officinale is between 0.8g and 1.2g. The earring Dendrobium from Anhui and Zhejiang is slightly smaller, about 0.5g per piece.

Dendrobium harvesting and processing

1. Harvesting: Harvest before budding in late spring every year. When harvesting, cut off the stems and branches that are more than three years old, and leave the tender stems to continue growing.

2. Processing: Due to the different varieties and commercial medicinal materials, there are different processing methods. The following two methods are introduced:

Wash off the mud and sand from the collected stems, remove the leaves and fibrous roots, separate the single stems, blanch them in 85℃ hot water for 1-2 minutes, pick them up, spread them on a bamboo mat or cement floor to dry in the sun. When they are 50% dry, rub off the sheath with your hands, spread them in the sun again, and make sure to turn them over frequently until they are completely dry.

You can also put the washed Dendrobium into boiling water for 5 minutes, take it out to dry, place it on a bamboo mat in the sun, turn it over 2 to 3 times a day, and when it becomes soft, rub it while drying, repeat several times until the remaining leaf sheaths are removed, and then dry it until it is completely dry.
