[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Pyrrosia vietnamensis of the Polypodiaceae family.

【Original morphology】 Plant height 15-20cm. The root is dark brown, horizontal, covered with lanceolate scales, dark brown in the middle of the scales, light brown on the edges, long and gradually pointed at the tip, shield-shaped at the base, and entire. Leaves subspermous; nearly sessile; leaf blades leathery, narrowly linear, 10-20cm long, 4-10mm wide, gradually pointed at apex, gradually narrow at base, leaf margins often strongly curled upwards making the leaves wavy or spirally curled, with water vesicles on the upper side, sparsely covered with light yellow stellate hairs or nearly smooth when young, densely covered with slender yellow stellate hairs on the lower side, and a layer of very fine stellate hairs, entire; midrib slightly sunken above, slightly raised below. The sporangium is round and distributed on the upper part of the back of the leaf, with 2-3 rows on each side of the midrib. When young, it is densely covered with star-shaped hairs.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on tree trunks or rocks in valleys, forests and stream banks.

【Properties】 Identification of properties: The base of the rhizome and petiole has scales, which are lanceolate and have serrated edges. Leaves are monotypic, leathery. The leaves are spirally curled and unfold when moist. The leaf blades are linear-lanceolate, with a long, downward-delayed base and upward-curled leaf margins. In addition to the slender, yellow, branched stellate hairs on the lower surface, there is also a layer of very fine stellate hairs. There are 2-3 rows of sporangia on both sides of the main vein slightly upwards. The leaves are leathery, sessile or with only short petioles. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; cool

【Functions and indications】 Clears lung heat; promotes diuresis and relieves stranguria. Mainly used for lung heat cough; damp-heat stranguria

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g.
