[Source] It is the fruit of the Nitraria tangutorum of the Tribulus family. Harvest the fruits when ripe and dry them in the sun.

[Original form] Shrub, 50 to 100 cm high. The stem is erect or curved, much branched, in clumps, sometimes lying horizontally, with branchlets grayish white and thorny at the tip. The leaves are small, 4 to 6 in number, clustered on young branches, oblanceolate, fleshy, 6 to 12 mm long and 2 to 3.5 mm wide; the petioles are short. The cymes are terminal, the flowers are yellow-white, with 5 petals and sepals, rarely 4. The fruit is a berry-like drupe, nearly round, dark red when ripe, and the juice is dark blue-purple. Flowering period is from May to June. Fruiting period is July to August.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in saline-alkali beaches, beside rivers and canals, sandy land at the edge of lake basins, and salinized low sandy land. Distributed in Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places.

[Chemical composition] The above-ground part contains antihypertensive alkaloids.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, sour, slightly salty, warm.

【Functions and indications】 Strengthens the spleen and stomach, nourishes and strengthens the body, regulates menstruation and promotes blood circulation. It is used to treat thin body, deficiency of qi and blood, disharmony of spleen and stomach, indigestion, irregular menstruation, and pain in the waist and abdomen.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang; or grind into powder and make into pills or powder.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat physical weakness: one liang of Kami and two qian of brown sugar. Decoction in water. Or grind into powder and make into pills, take three grams each time.
