[Source] Capsicum frutescens L. [C. annuum L.], a plant of the Solanaceae family, is used as medicine using its fruit, roots and stems . Harvest when the fruit turns red from June to July and sun-dry.

【Nature and flavor】Fruit: spicy, hot.

【Functions and indications】Fruits: warms the middle and dispels cold, strengthens the stomach and helps digestion. Used for stomach pain caused by cold, gastrointestinal bloating, and indigestion; used externally to treat frostbite, rheumatic pain, and lumbar muscle pain.

[Usage and Dosage] 1 to 3 qian of fruit; apply appropriate amount of root externally, decoct in water and wash the affected area.

【Note】 Do not use for patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers, acute gastritis, tuberculosis, hemorrhoids or eye diseases.

[Notes] (1) There are many varieties of pepper , and some of them are also used for medicinal purposes: Capsicum frutescens L. var. conoides (Mill.) Bailey; Capsicum frutescens L. var . fasciculatum ( Sturt.) Bailey; Capsicum frutescens L. var. acuminatum Fingh.; Capsicum frutescens L. var. longum Bailey. In short, any fruit that is pointed and long and spicy can be used, while those that are round and not spicy, such as lantern peppers (bell peppers), cannot be used as medicine, and green peppers are also not used for medicinal purposes.
