Cockscomb is a traditional Chinese medicine. It has high medicinal value and has a good health-care effect on some diseases. In our lives, many medicines use cockscombs as the main ingredient, but there are still many taboos to pay attention to when taking cockscombs.

[Source] It is the seeds of Celosia cristata of the Amaranthaceae family. The fruits are harvested when they are ripe in September and October. Cut the above-ground part, dry it in the sun, rub out the seeds, and pick out the impurities.

[Properties] The dried seeds are small, flat and oval, with a diameter of 1 to 1.5 mm. The surface is smooth, black and shiny. Observation under a magnifying glass reveals fine reticular patterns and small pits on the surface. The seed coat is thin and brittle. The seed kernel is yellowish white. Odorless, light taste. The best ones are plump, black and shiny.

【Chemical composition】 Contains fatty oil.

[Pharmacological action] The test tube method has proved that the seed decoction has a good effect on human vaginal Trichomonas. The worms tend to disappear 5 to 10 minutes after contact with the drug solution.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, cool.

[Entry into meridians] "Yuchu Yaojie": "enters the liver meridian of foot Jueyin."

【Functions and indications】Cooling blood and stopping bleeding. It is used to treat intestinal wind, bloody stool, red and white dysentery, metrorrhagia, and stranguria.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1.5-3 qian; or make into pills or powder.
