The stem is much branched, quadrangular, and sometimes has two rows of multicellular pubescence. Leaves are opposite; petiole is about 5mm long; leaf blade is lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate at apex, obtuse or cuneate at base, 2-8cm long and 0.8-3cm wide. The raceme is terminal; the bracts are green, with sharp teeth only at the base or with long spiny teeth along the entire edge, and the apex is acute to long acuminate; the calyx is campanulate, about 4mm long, often covered with rough hairs, the calyx teeth are triangular to subulate triangular, with short eyelashes; the corolla is red or purple-red, 1.2-2cm long, and the tube is twice as long as the eaves. The upper lip is hood-shaped, 2-cleft, the lobes are rolled, and the edges are densely covered with hairs. The lower lip is 3-cleft; the anther loculus is long and the tail is pointed. Capsule ovate-gradient, 8-10mm long, straight or with tip slightly tilted forward, covered with scaly hairs. The seeds are black, 2-4 in number, and about 3 mm long.
