The efficacy and function of chicken feather grass

Chicken feather grass is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine and is very helpful for many diseases. Let us give a brief introduction to Celosia striata.

[Other names] Long fleshy bud grass, foxtail algae thorn bean

[Source] It is the whole herb of Oxytropis multifolia, a plant of the Leguminosae family. Dig up in summer and autumn and sun-dried.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb, 15 to 40 cm tall, with dense white soft hairs all over the plant. Most leaves are basal, with leaflets thin and linear, usually arranged in whorls of 4 to 8. Each leaf has 30 to 40 leaflets, with pointed apex, rounded base, and entire margin. Inflorescence: raceme, peduncle longer than leaves, flowers large, 2-2.5 cm long, corolla reddish purple, pods oblong, slightly flattened on the ventral side, with a pointed tip on the dorsal side.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in dry mountains, grasslands, hills, dry rivers, sandy soils or sand dunes. Distributed in Northeast China and Inner Mongolia.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies, reduces swelling, eliminates rheumatism, stops bleeding, treats influenza, sore throat, carbuncle, swelling, trauma, blood stasis and swelling, and various bleeding.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: grind into powder, 0.8 to 1 qian; or decoct in water, 2 to 3 qian. For external use: grind into powder and apply on the affected area or decoct in water for washing.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating sore throat: take equal parts of Dianthus superbus, Aconitum kusnezoffii leaf and Celosia argentea. Grind all into fine powder. Take 8 fen to 1 qian each time, decoct in water, drink warm with the residue or with boiled water, twice a day.
