[Source] It is the whole herb of Physalis alkekengi, a plant of the Scrophulariaceae family .

[Original form] Perennial herb, 20 to 30 cm high. Stem erect, solitary, with 4 ribs. Leaves are opposite, with extremely short or nearly sessile petioles; leaf blades are broadly ovate to narrowly ovate, 3-6 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, with short acute tips, lower leaves sometimes blunt-headed, base nearly rounded to broadly cuneate, margins coarsely serrated on upper part, base entire. Flowers are solitary at the top of branches or in leaf axils; pedicels are slender, about 3 cm long and less than 1 mm thick; calyx is bell-shaped, 1-1.5 cm long, 5 mm in diameter, with 5 lobes of varying lengths, the rear one is slightly larger; corolla is light yellow, about 1.7 cm in diameter, 2-lipped, the upper lip is 2-lobed, the lower lip is 3-lobed, with yellow-brown spots and two protruding veins; there are 4 stamens. Capsule. Flowering period is July.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in semi-shade in mid-mountain areas. Distributed in Sichuan and Yunnan.

[Nature and flavor] It is mild in nature, astringent in taste, and non-toxic.

【Functions and indications】Astringent, antidiarrheal. Treat damp-heat dysentery, spleen deficiency diarrhea and leucorrhea in women.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 4 to 8 qian.
