【English name】 Fragrant Lindsaea

[Other names] Rhizoma Coptis chinensis, Resurrection Grass, Pig Hair Seven

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Pteris scabra, a plant of the Pteridaceae family.

[Original form] Terrestrial fern, plant height 20-30cm. The rhizome is chestnut-colored, horizontal, and densely covered with chestnut-red scales. Leaves are close together and erect; petiole is 4-7cm long, straw color or chestnut black at base; leaf blade is herbaceous, linear-lanceolate, 10-14cm long, about 2cm wide, once pinnate, with 17-30 pairs of pinnae, alternate, with short petioles; pinnae are semicircular oblique triangles with notches; veins are dichotomously branched. The sori are attached along the upper edge of the pinna, between the two notches and across the tips of 2-4 veinlets; the sori cover is transversely linear with broken edges.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in the shade of forests, forest edges, hillside grasslands or field edges at an altitude of 200m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The rhizome is cylindrical, with densely covered strip-shaped diamond-shaped scales on the surface, many leaves growing near the top, and numerous fibrous roots below. The petiole is straw-colored, 4-7cm long; the leaf blade is linear-lanceolate, 10-14cm long and about 2cm wide, the pinnae have short petioles, are semicircular oblique triangles, 4-5mm wide, the lower edge is straight and entire, the upper edge is slightly arc-shaped and notched; the sporangium grows between the two notches, spanning the tops of 2-4 veinlets, and the edge of the sporangium cover is slightly gnawed. Slight odor, light taste.

[Entry into Meridians] Enters the lung, stomach, and bladder meridians

【Functions and indications】Hemostasis; diuresis. Mainly for urinary incontinence, hematuria, and vomiting blood

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g.

[Discussions by various scholars] "Xinhua Compendium of Materia Medica": It has the functions of stopping bleeding and promoting diuresis. Used for symptoms such as urinary retention and vomiting blood.
