[Source] The meat of the dace, a carp of the family Cyprinidae.

[Original morphology] The body is long and laterally flattened, the abdomen is round, and the back is slightly raised in front of the dorsal fin. The body length is about 30 cm. The head is short, the snout is rounded and blunt, and the length of the snout is slightly larger than the diameter of the eyes. Eyes are set laterally and widely spaced. The mouth is inferior, small, arc-shaped, and the upper and lower jaws are keratinized. There are two pairs of whiskers, the snout whiskers are more obvious, and the mandibular whiskers are short. There are many small nipple-like protrusions on the edge of the lip, the edge of the upper lip is finely wavy, and the post-labial groove is interrupted. Pharyngeal teeth in 3 rows. The scales are medium-sized, with 38 to 41 scales on the lateral line. Dorsal fin III12, without spines, the distance from its starting point to the base of the tail is greater than the distance to the tip of the snout. Anal fin III5. The caudal fin is deeply forked. The upper part of the body is bluish-gray, the abdomen is silvery-white, and there are black spots at the base of 8 to 9 scales on the side of the body, just above and behind the base of the pectoral fin. There is a black spot at the base of the tail scales of young fish.

[Habitat distribution] Distributed in the Pearl River Basin and Hainan Island.
