[Original morphology] Annual herb, 30 to 90 cm tall, the whole plant is covered with white short soft hairs. The stem is erect, square, green, with side branches growing in the leaf axils. The leaves are opposite, ovate-lanceolate, 1-4.5 cm long, 0.8-2 cm wide, acute at the apex, cordate at the base, with coarsely serrated edges; the petiole is 0.3-3.5 cm long. Inflorescence terminal; calyx tubular, 5-lobed; flowers small, white with a slight pink tint, 2-lipped, upper lip erect, lower lip spreading; 4 stamens; ovary 4-lobed. Nutlets are brownish yellow.

【Habitat distribution】Grows in field grass. Distributed in Northwest, Southwest, Hubei, Shandong, Tibet and other places.

[Chemical composition] Contains volatile oil, which is composed of nepetalactone, isonepetalactone, dihydronepetalactone, isodihydronepetalactone, 5,9-dehydronepetalactone, nepetalic acid, nepetalic anhydride, caryophyllene, eugenol, etc. It also contains carotene, etc.

[Pharmacological action] Because it contains volatile oil, it can be used as an aromatic or carminative. Chewing its leaves can cure toothache.

【Functions and indications】 ① "Common Chinese Herbal Medicines in Tibet": "It can dispel wind and induce sweating, relieve fever, clear rashes, and stop bleeding. After being roasted into charcoal, it can be used for vomiting blood, nosebleeds, and bloody stools."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: decoct 1 to 3 qian. For external use: mash and apply.
