[Source] This product is the dried root of Euphorbia pekinensis Rupr., a plant of the Euphorbiaceae family. Dig up in autumn and winter, wash and dry.

[Properties] This product is irregularly long and conical, slightly curved, often with branches, 10 to 20 cm long and 1.5 to 4 cm in diameter. The surface is gray-brown or tan, rough, with longitudinal wrinkles, transverse lenticels and root marks. The apex is slightly swollen, with many stem bases and bud scars. It is hard, not easy to break, the cross section is white or light yellow, and fibrous. Slight smell, slightly bitter taste.

【Identification】 (1) The powder of this product is light yellow. Single starch granules are round or oval, with a diameter of 3 to 15 μm, and a dot- or fissure-shaped hilum; compound granules are composed of 2 to 3 sub-granules. The diameter of calcium oxalate cluster crystals is 19 to 40 μm. Margined pits and reticulated ducts are more common, with a diameter of 26 to 50 μm. The fibers are single or in bundles, with thick walls and are non-lignified. The unsegmented milk ducts are mostly broken and contain yellow, fine granular milk.
