[Other names] Black wolfberry, phoenix tail grass, wellhead grass

[Source] Medicinal material source: the rhizome or whole herb of Pteris rugosa of the Pteris family.

[Original form] Terrestrial fern, plant height 30-60cm. The rhizome is short, horizontal, and densely covered with dark brown linear-lanceolate scales. The leaves are nearly leathery, clustered, and dimorphic; the petioles are mostly reddish brown, rough, and have small tubercles; the leaves are one to two pinnately divided, 30-60cm long, and the base pinnae are forked on the lower side; the lobes of the nutrient leaves are long linear, up to 1.2cm wide, with serrated edges; the lobes of the spore leaves are long linear, 4.5-6mm wide; the veins are pinnate, and the lateral veins are sometimes forked. The sori are linear and attached along the lower edges of the pinnae; the sori cap is membranous and linear.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in river valleys, rock crevices and mountain forest wetlands at an altitude of 900-2600m.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness; promotes blood circulation and reduces swelling. Mainly used for dysentery, diarrhea, edema, hepatitis, cholecystitis, throat paralysis, urinary tract infection, carbuncle, sore, rheumatic pain, swelling and pain caused by falls, and fracture

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
