Eurya grandis is a famous traditional and commonly used Chinese medicinal material in my country with a long history of application. Today we will learn about the golden leaf thorn.

[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots and leaves of Eurya viridis of the Theaceae family.

[Original form] Eurya palustris shrub, 2-3m tall. The terminal bud is finely hairy, and the young branches have two ridges, finely hairy or sparsely hairless. The leaves are leathery, with petioles 3-5mm long, glabrous and grooved; the leaf blades are elliptical, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, 4-8cm long, 1.1-2.6cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, blunt and slightly concave at the tip, cuneate or broadly cuneate at the base, with fine teeth on the margin, glabrous on both sides, with golden glandular dots on the surface, which are more obvious when dry, the midrib is concave on the surface, convex on the back, with 8-10 pairs of lateral veins, and inconspicuous reticulate veins. Flowers are unisexual and dioecious; 1-3 flowers are axillary, with pedicels 2-2.5mm long; female flowers have 2 bracts, which are round, with small black glandular dots at the tip, and are glabrous; sepals are round, about 1.8mm long, slightly concave at the tip, and glabrous; the ovary is nearly spherical, glabrous, and the stigma has 3 lobes at the tip. The fruit is spherical or oblong, 2-3mm in diameter, and glabrous.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in thickets on mountain tops and hillsides at an altitude of 1100-1400m.

【Nature and flavor】 Astringent; neutral

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; reduces swelling and relieves pain. Mainly for unknown swelling and pus; impetigo

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount, decoct in water for washing; or mash fresh product for application; or dry in the sun, grind into powder and apply.
