Base woody; stems hardly branched, sharply quadrangular or winged. Leaves opposite; nearly sessile; leaf blade leathery, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, 5-12cm long, 1.5-2.5cm wide, apex acute or long acuminate, base rounded or cuneate, glabrous on both sides, cymes terminal, often arranged in panicles or nearly corymbose, branches ribbed or winged; bracts lanceolate, spreading; pedicels absent; calyx tube turbinate, about 1mm long, 4-lobed at the top, lobes ovate, shorter than calyx tube; corolla white, tubular, about 4mm long, throat slightly enlarged, 4-lobed at the apex, lobes lanceolate; stamens born in the throat of the corolla tube, inside; style nearly equal to corolla, stigma 2-lobed, rough. The capsule is obovate, 2-2.5mm long, 1-1.2mm in diameter, with a flat or slightly convex tip, persistent calyx lobes, and split into two lobes. There are several seeds, which are nearly oval and ridged. The flowering period is late summer and early autumn.
