[Source] Medicinal material source: the leaves or roots of Salix babylonica of the Myrsinaceae family.

[Original form] Shrub or small tree, 2-3m high, rarely up to 10m. Branchlets cylindrical, usually sparsely hairy or pubescent. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 1-1.5cm long; leaf blade is hard and papery, oblong-lanceolate or ovate, 7-14cm long, 3-7cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, cuneate or obtuse base, margin with coarse serrations or sparse wavy teeth, tooth tips with glandular dots, dorsal surface sometimes covered with sparse stiff hairs, especially on veins; midrib is raised, lateral veins are 8-12 pairs, caudal end reaches tooth tips, usually without vein-like glandular stripes. Inflorescence raceme or panicle, often branched at base, axillary, 2-7cm long, sparsely hairy, especially bracts; bracts lanceolate, about 1mm long; pedicels 1-2mm long; bracteoles lanceolate or ovate, inserted at base of calyx; flowers about 2mm long; sepals ovate or oblong-ovate, as long as calyx tube, sometimes with cilia; corolla white, bell-shaped, with venational glandular stripes, lobes as long as or slightly longer than corolla tube, ovate, entire or with wavy teeth; stamens inserted in middle of corolla tube, included, filaments as long as anthers, anthers round or kidney-shaped; pistil not exceeding stamens, stigma slightly fissured or half-cleft. The fruit is spherical or nearly ellipsoidal, about 3mm in diameter, brown-red when young, white when mature, with more or less venous glandular stripes, and the persistent calyx envelops the fruit to slightly above the middle, that is, 2/3 of the fruit. The flowering period is from February to April, and the fruiting period is from October to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under mixed woods or sparse woods in the mountains at an altitude of 400-2800m.
