[Original morphology] Calendula is an annual or biennial herb, 30-60cm tall, with short hairs all over the plant. The stem is erect, with longitudinal ridges and branches at the top. Simple leaves are alternate; lower leaves are spoon-shaped and entire; upper leaves are oblong to oblong-obovate, 5-9cm long, 1-2cm wide, obtuse or pointed at the apex, slightly cordate at the base, slightly clasping the stem, with entire margin or sparsely serrated. The capitula is solitary at the end of the branch, 2.5-5cm in diameter, with stalks; the involucre has 1-2 layers of bracts, which are linear, acuminate at the apex, and membranous at the margins; the ligulate flowers are yellow or orange-yellow, female, 1-2 layers, pregnant, with the ligules entire or 3-toothed at the apex; the syringa is bisexual, infertile, with 5 lobes, and the style is not split. Achenes are longer than bracts, hooked inward, with scaly transverse folds on the back and narrow wings on both sides; no pappus. Flowering period is from April to July.

[Properties] Identification: The rhizome of this product is short and thick, with many scars of stem bases and petioles on the top, and the texture is slightly hard. The rhizome is clustered with many fine roots, the surface is brown with longitudinal wrinkles, and the texture is relatively flexible. It has a slight fragrance and a slightly bitter taste.
