[Pharmacological action] Peanut oil can be used as a solvent for oily injections and as a base for ointments in pharmaceutical preparations. Some experiments have shown that subcutaneous injection of peanut oil once a day (0.05 ml/100 g) for 3 days can cause mild enlargement of the thyroid gland of rats and increase the thyroid iodine uptake rate. The steam distillate of peanut oil has a weak antibacterial effect. In the replication of experimental atherosclerosis in rats, if peanut oil is combined with other high-cholesterol feeds, the aorta can produce "atherosclerosis" similar to that in humans; if butter is used instead of peanut oil, blood clots often occur and the lesions are different from those in humans.
