Astilbe root is a traditional Chinese medicine. It has high medicinal value and has a good health-care effect on some diseases. In our lives, many medicines use Astilbe root as the main raw material, but we still need to pay attention to many taboos when taking Astilbe root.

[Other names] Panax notoginseng, golden-haired Panax notoginseng, wild cohosh (Commonly used folk herbs in Zhejiang), Yin-Yang Tiger (Handbook of Herbs in Jiangxi).

[Source] It is the rhizome of Astilbe chinensis and other plants of the Saxifragaceae family. Harvest in summer and autumn, remove the fibrous roots, scales and hairs, and use fresh or dry in the sun.

[Chemical composition] The root of Astilbe chinensis contains starch, tannin and bergenin. The content of bergenin (i.e., dwarf tea extract No. 1) in the root and rhizome is more than 1%. The roots and rhizomes of Astilbe chinensis contain bergenin.

[Properties and flavors] "Commonly used herbal medicines in Zhejiang folk medicine": "Warm in nature, astringent in taste."

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, relieve pain, and detoxify. Treat injuries from falls, pain in joints and bones, stomachache, and pain after surgery.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-5 qian (0.5-1 liang for fresh product). For external use: mash and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat injuries from falls: 1 liang of Astilbe root (fresh). Cut into slices, add rice wine and steam until cooked. Take it three times before meals, or boil it in water and drink with rice wine.
