[Original morphology] A small shrub, 10-15cm high, with a creeping rhizome; slightly pubescent when young, and without branches except for the special lateral flower branches. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 1-1.5cm long, finely pubescent; leaf blade is hard and papery, narrowly ovate to nearly oblong, with acute and obtuse or acuminate apex, cuneate or nearly rounded base, 7-14cm long, 2.5-4.8cm wide, nearly entire, with inconspicuous glandular dots on the margin, the back is finely pubescent, especially on the midrib, with sparse glandular dots, the lateral veins are almost at right angles to the midrib, and bend upward near the margin to form irregular marginal glands away from the margin. Umbel, borne at the top of lateral special flower branches, with 1-2 leaves near the top; pedicel 1-1.5cm long; calyx base fused up to 1/3, sepals lanceolate or ovate, about 2mm long, with glandular dots; petals pink, ovate, about 5mm long, sparsely pubescent inside, with glandular dots; stamens shorter than petals, anther lanceolate, with glandular dots on the back; pistil as long as petals, glabrous, with glandular dots. The fruit is spherical, about 6mm in diameter, bright red, with glandular dots, and the persistent calyx and fruit pedicel are usually purple-red. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is October-December.
