[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Pteris chinensis of the family Pterisaceae.

【Original morphology】 Plant height 30-50cm. The rhizome is short and erect, with the top and base of the petiole densely covered with lanceolate scales. Leaves are clustered; petiole is 12-25cm long, straw color; blade is herbaceous, oblong, 18-40cm long, 11-14cm wide, apex long tail-shaped acuminate, base slightly narrowed, glabrous above, with a few needle-shaped spines sparsely distributed along the grooves on both sides of the rachis and rachis, densely covered with short glandular hairs along the rachis, rachis and rachis minor below, deeply pinnate-lobed three times; pinnae 10-14 pairs, 1-2 pairs at the bottom usually opposite, alternate upwards, slightly obliquely spread, with short petioles, lanceolate, the middle ones are larger, 5-8cm long, 1.5-2.5cm wide, apex acuminate and tail-shaped, 1 pair at the base usually slightly shortened; pinnules are oblong-lanceolate, with short petioles with narrow wings, deeply pinnate-lobed, apex obtuse, lobes with 1-3 short sharp teeth; there are slender spines above the midrib, leaf veins are pinnate, veinlets are simple, rarely forked. The sori are dorsally located on the upper side of the lobes and are usually horseshoe-shaped; the sori lid is oblong and entire.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in forest wetlands, stream banks and rocks at an altitude of 70-2000m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; Cool

【Functions and indications】Detoxifies and cools blood to stop bleeding. It is used to treat carbuncle, swelling, sore, dysentery, epistaxis, and traumatic bleeding.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount, crush the fresh product and apply; or grind the dry product into powder and apply.
