[Source] It is the rhizome of the Pteris acuminate plant of the Pteridaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 80 to 150 cm tall. The rhizome is long and horizontal, with densely covered brown lanceolate scales on the top. Leaves are distal; petiole 30-60 cm long, brown, with sparse scales, hairy or glabrous; single-pinnate compound leaves, leaf blade oblanceolate, 60-100 cm long, 15-30 cm wide, with an acute apex, lower pinnae slightly shortened, sub-leathery, pinnae 13-20 pairs, linear, 8-15 cm long, 10-18 mm wide, tip long acuminate. Pinnately lobed to mid-lobed, lobes 2-3 mm wide, pointed, entire or slightly serrated, lobes upward at the base often slightly longer, top pinnae 8-15 cm long, 1.2-1.5 cm wide; veins pinnately separate, midrib and lower veins occasionally hairy, only a pair of lateral veins at the base connected and extending to a membranous bend. The sori are large and round, attached to the lower lateral veins of the leaves and close to the edge, and the sori cover is round and kidney-shaped. The spore period is from June to December.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in roadside wetlands, stream banks or forests. Distributed throughout the south of the Yangtze River, east to Taiwan and north to southern Shaanxi.
