[Original form] Caviar is a semi-shrub, up to 2m tall. Stem cylindrical, glabrous. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 5-13mm long; leaf blade is papery, broadly elliptic, obovate to long obovate or lanceolate, 10-20cm long, 4-8cm wide, with long pointed tip, cuneate base, coarse and shallow serrations on the margin, glandular at the tooth tip, glabrous on both sides; 5-9 pairs of lateral veins. The spike inflorescence is terminal, dichotomous or racemose, arranged in a panicle, with a long peduncle; the bracts are triangular or broadly ovate; the flowers are small and white; there are 3 stamens, and the connective is fused into an ovoid, with 3 shallow lobes at the top, the central lobe is larger, with a 2-chambered anther, and the lobes on both sides are smaller, each with a 1-chambered anther, the connective is not elongated, and the anther loculus is in the middle or above the middle of the connective; the ovary is ovate. The fruit is obovate, about 5mm long, white, flowering from April to June, and fruiting from July to September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under forests in valleys or in wetlands beside streams.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The stem is cylindrical, about 5mm in diameter, and branched; the surface has longitudinal stripes, is smooth and hairless, and the nodes are slightly swollen. The leaves are often wrinkled, and when flattened they become obovate or oblanceolate, 10-20 cm long, 3-8 cm wide, with the tip gradually narrowing to a point, the base cuneate, the edges serrated, a gland at the tip of the teeth, and glabrous on both sides. The branches often have spike inflorescences with racemose branches at the top, and the peduncle is relatively long. It has a fragrant aroma and a slightly astringent taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; slightly bitter; warm

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and cold; promote blood circulation and activate collaterals; stop bleeding. It is mainly used for colds, headaches, rheumatic pain, limb numbness, bone injury, and postpartum bleeding.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 15-30g; or make into pills or powder. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
