[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit of Ophiopogon japonicus, a plant of the Ophiopogon japonicus family.

[Original form] Ophiopogon japonicus, a perennial marsh herb, 20-50cm tall. The base of the stem is swollen and has fibrous roots. Leaves are basal; leaf blades are linear-lanceolate, 10-30cm long, 1.5-2mm wide, slightly flattened at the top, semi-cylindrical at the bottom, and expanded into a sheath at the base. The tip of the sheath is connected to the 3-5mm long ligule. The pedicel is 5-30cm high, with a dense spike-like raceme on the upper part; the flowers are small, yellow-green, and have short petioles; there are no bracts; there are 6 tepals; they are ovate, scale-like, and arranged in 2 whorls; there are 6 stamens, opposite to the tepals, with almost no filaments; there are 6 carpels, the style is absent, and the stigma is feathery. The fruit is oblong with longitudinal grooves and splits into 6 lobes when ripe. Flowering period is June-July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in riverside wetlands, swamp meadows and shallow water.
