[Source] It is the rhizome of the Liliaceae plant Zongbaye . Available all year round.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The rhizome is thick, prostrate and horizontal, with many fibrous roots. The leaves are basal, curled when young, and have long petioles; the leaf blades are oblong, gradually pointed at the apex, cuneate at the base, entire or wavy, with parallel veins at the base and spots. The flowers are brown or light red, solitary, with short pedicels; the perianth is bell-shaped; there are 6 stamens; the ovary is superior, with a broad and shield-shaped stigma. The berries are spherical. Flowering period is from August to September.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in dense forests in deep mountains, valleys, and moist places beside streams. Distributed in Yunnan and other places.

[Functions and indications] Promote blood circulation and dissipate blood stasis, set bones, relieve pain, clear away heat and detoxify. Treat dysentery, malaria, rheumatism, kidney deficiency, low back and leg pain, bruises, fractures, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang. For external use: mash and apply.
