It parasitizes on the tender leaves or petioles of the Rhus chinensis plant "Rhus chinensis" and other plants of the same genus in the Anacardiaceae family. Schisandra chinensis is the mature fruit of the Magnoliaceae plant Schisandra chinensis. Gallnut is a gall on the leaves of Rhus chinensis and Populus chinensis of the Anacardiaceae family.
