[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb with roots of the Apiaceae plant Ferula.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30-100cm high. The plant is densely covered with short soft hairs. The root is cylindrical, about 8mm thick, with withered brown-yellow leaf sheath fibers remaining at the root neck. The stem is single, branched, pale, and branches upward from the bottom into an umbel. The basal leaves are rosette-shaped, with the base of the petiole expanding into a sheath; the leaf blade is broadly ovate to triangular in outline, pinnately divided two to three times, the final segment is oblong or broadly elliptic, then deeply pinnately divided, the lobes are cuneate to obovate, 1-3mm long, 1-2mm wide, often 3-lobed, with a pointed tip, densely pubescent, gray-blue; there are fewer stem leaves, pinnately divided one to two times; the upper leaves are simplified into lanceolate sheaths. Compound umbels grow at the top of stems, branches and twigs, with a diameter of 4-12cm; involucral bracts are absent or 1-3, conical; rays are 4-15; umbels have 5-12 flowers; involucral bracts are 3-5, linear-lanceolate; calyx teeth are ovate; petals are yellow, broadly elliptic, with incurved tips; stylopodium is oblate-conical, style is elongated, and stigma is thickened. The fruit is broadly elliptical, with raised ridges, 10-15mm long and 3-6mm wide, with one oil tube in each groove and two oil tubes on the commissure. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is June-July.
