Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan's "specialties" can cure both diseases

In traditional Chinese medicine, there is a plant called Chuanxiong, which is mainly produced in Peng County, Sichuan. Therefore, it was called Chuanxiong after the Song Dynasty. It has been cultivated in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and other provinces. "Shennong's Herbal Classic" lists it as a top-grade medicine, believing that Xiongjing: "is used to treat stroke, headache, cold arthritis, slow and tight tendons and veins, wounds, and blood retention and infertility in women." Xiongjing was written as Chuanxiong after the Song Dynasty: Medical scientists in the Song Dynasty and later attached great importance to the Xiongjing produced in Sichuan, which became the main representative of Xiongjing. After that, the name of Xiongjing was gradually replaced by Chuanxiong. This was the second recognition and modification of the name of Xiongjing. From then on, the authentic status of Sichuan Chuanxiong has been established.

Chuanxiong has a pungent and warm smell and can invigorate blood circulation and promote the flow of qi. It can reach the top of the head and go down to the sea of blood, so it is called "able to go up and down". "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: "Xiangjiang, goes up to the head and eyes, regulates menstruation, relieves depression in the middle, and is a blood-Qi medicine."

1. In clinical practice, Chuanxiong is the first choice medicine for headache. Zhang Yuansu's "The Origin of Medicine" said: "For headaches, you must use Chuanxiong. If it does not heal, add other meridian-guiding drugs,..." Prescriptions for treating wind-cold headaches include Chuanxiong Cha Tiao San and Sanpian Tang. Another example is Qingshang Quntong Decoction: it can dispel wind-heat and relieve headaches. It is mainly used to treat all kinds of migraine.

2. Chuanxiong can go down to the blood sea and is good at treating gynecological diseases such as irregular menstruation and dysmenorrhea. 1. Used to nourish blood, activate blood circulation and regulate menstruation. The recipe is Siwu Decoction (from "Xian Shou Li Shang Xu Duan Secret Prescription"), which is composed of four herbs: Angelica sinensis, Chuanxiong, Paeonia lactiflora and Rehmannia glutinosa. 2. Danggui Shaoyao San (from "Jinkui Yaolue") is mainly used to treat pregnant women, liver depression and qi stagnation, and abdominal pain. It is composed of six medicinal herbs: Angelica sinensis, Paeonia lactiflora, Ligusticum chuanxiong, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, and Alisma orientalis. 3. Treat blood stasis caused by cold, late menstruation (delayed), or infertility due to uterine cold, etc., with a prescription such as Wenjing Decoction (from "Jinkui Yaolue"). 4. Treat abdominal pain caused by blood stasis after childbirth, with a prescription such as Shenghua Decoction, which is composed of whole angelica, Chuanxiong, peach kernel, dried ginger, and licorice.

3. Chuanxiong has the function of dispelling wind and relieving pain, and is often used clinically to treat rheumatic arthritis pain; wind-cold, rheumatic colds and other symptoms. Prescriptions include Duhuo Jishe Decoction, Ginseng Baidu Powder, Jiuwei Qianghuo Decoction, Qianghuo Shengshi Decoction, etc.

4. Chuanxiong is also good at treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. For example, the Quick-acting Heart-saving Pills use Chuanxiong as the main ingredient; the Buyang Huanwu Decoction for treating sequelae of stroke also contains Chuanxiong.

Although Chuanxiong has many uses, it is not suitable for people with yin deficiency, hyperactivity of fire, upper body excess and lower body deficiency, and weak qi.
