On June 22, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2022 announced awards for best student papers and other awards. Researchers from Tongji University and Alibaba won the Best Student Paper Award.

The first author of the paper is Chen Hansheng, a 2020 master's student at the Institute of Intelligent Vehicles, School of Automotive Engineering, Tongji University and Shanghai Center for Autonomous Intelligent Unmanned Systems Science. His supervisor is Professor Xiong Lu. The corresponding authors of the paper are deputy supervisor Tian Wei, assistant professor at the School of Automotive Engineering, Tongji University, and Dr. Wang Pichao of Alibaba.

The reporter learned that this is the first time that the first author of the winning paper is from a Chinese university since CVPR established the Best Student Paper Award in 2001.

Chen Hansheng published a paper in CVPR in his first year of graduate school and won the "Best Student Paper Award" this year, which is the only one in the world. The second-best student paper nomination award was won by Harvard University and others.

How to use ordinary cameras to accurately locate obstacles in three-dimensional scenes is the focus of Chen Hansheng's article. His research results will have broad application prospects in fields such as robotics and autonomous driving.

It is understood that CVPR is a top conference in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition held by IEEE. This year, the number of submissions to the CVPR conference reached 8,161. After more than three months of review, a total of 2,064 papers were finally accepted by the conference, with an acceptance rate of 25.28%.
