[Source] The whole herb of Humulus scandens (Lour.) Merr., a plant of the genus Humulus in the Moraceae family. Collected in summer and autumn, cut into sections and dried.

[Preparation] Wash, dry and chop.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, bitter, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies, promotes diuresis and reduces swelling. Used for hot flashes caused by pulmonary tuberculosis, gastroenteritis, dysentery, fever caused by cold, difficulty urinating, pyelonephritis, acute nephritis, cystitis, and urinary tract stones; used externally to treat carbuncles, boils, eczema, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] 3-5 qian; for external use, appropriate amount. Mash the fresh product and apply externally. In case of snake bite, apply around the wound.

[Remarks] (1) It is used for cough due to lung heat. It can be used in combination with Houttuynia cordata, Commelina communis, and Honeysuckle. For symptoms such as difficulty urinating due to damp-heat in the bladder, urethral pain, or blood in the urine, it can be used together with phoenix tail grass, Polygonum multiflorum, Malva ovata, Sea Sand, Blackberry, and Imperata root. It is used for tuberculosis cough, afternoon hot flashes and other symptoms, and can be used together with other medicines such as Stemona japonica, Scutellaria baicalensis, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Rehmannia glutinosa. In addition, this product can be used to treat skin eczema or skin itching, and can be used with other medicines such as Xanthium sibiricum for external washing; to treat snake and insect bites, sores, swelling and pain, use an appropriate amount of fresh grass, wash it, and mash it for external application.
