[Original morphology] Perennial herb with a short creeping rhizome. The stem is erect, 30 to 60 cm high, with long brown hairs, and unbranched. There are 5 to 6 leaves, borne at the lower part of the stem, almost in whorls; ovate-oblong, 3 to 10 cm long and 2 to 5 cm wide. The apex is obtuse, the base is heart-shaped, the margin is entire or wavy, with sparse short thorns, green and glabrous above, with long brown hairs below, sometimes purple-red below; the petiole is 3 to 10 cm long and has brown hairs. The inflorescence is slender, with short stalks or nearly sessile, forming a racemose cluster. The involucre is tubular, about 15 mm long and 3 mm wide; the bracts are multi-layered, the outer bracts are shorter, ovate-narrowly elliptical, about 4 mm long, and the inner bracts are lanceolate, 15 mm long, with sharp tips; the flowers are white with a slight almond smell. Achenes are oblanceolate-oblong, 4.5 mm long, about 1 mm wide, flat, narrow at the base, with longitudinal stripes and fine hairs; pappus is brown-yellow, about 10 mm long. Flowering period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in shady places on hillsides. Distributed throughout East China and Central and South China.

[Pharmacological action] The water decoction (100%) has a significant inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus. The inhibition zone is clear and transparent, with a diameter of 17 mm (paper disc method).
