[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the Poaceae plant Scutellaria baicalensis.

[Original form] Yellow-backed grass, perennial herb. The culm is thick, erect, 80-110cm high. The leaf sheath has deciduous tubercle-based long soft hairs; the ligule is 1-2mm long, obtuse at the tip, with short cilia; the leaf blade is narrowly linear, 10-40cm long, 4-5mm wide, and only the upper base is sparsely covered with tubercle-based long cilia. The pseudopanicle is narrow, 30-40cm long, the spathe is boat-shaped, hairy or hairless, the raceme emerges from the spathe, is 1-2cm long, with 7 spikelets, and a male or neutral spikelet nearly whorled at the base, but without awns; the first glume is leathery, with involute margins, the second glume is the same length as the first or shorter, with membranous margins, transparent; the middle of the three upper spikelets is bisexual, with beards at the base; the lemma of the first floret is membranous and transparent, the palea does not exist, the lemma of the second floret is short, with 1 long awn or no awns. Flowering and fruiting period is from June to October.
