[Original form] Lihuangteng is a climbing woody vine. Branchlets purple-brown, glabrous or nearly glabrous. Leaves are alternate, odd-pinnate compound leaves with 11-15 leaflets, grooves on rachis and petiole; leaflets are opposite, petiole is 3-8mm long; leaf blade is oblong or elliptic-oblong, 4-9.5cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, nearly cordate at base, upper half of margin with sparse obtuse teeth or nearly entire, leaf surface is grayish white with small papillae, midrib is curled yellow pubescent, axils of dorsal veins with grayish yellow whiskers; lateral veins are 6-8 pairs, lateral veins and veinlets are raised on the back of the leaf; thin papery. Flowers are small and heterogamous; panicle 8-20cm long or longer, with sparse and slender branches, sparsely spread and pubescent; bracteoles are small, subulate, about 1cm long, hairy outside and on the edges; pedicels are 1-1.5mm long and glabrous; calyx is 5-lobed, glabrous, with lobes triangular, about 0.8mm long; petals are 5, ovate or ovate-elliptical, about 1.5mm long, glabrous; stamens are 10, about 0.7mm long, filaments subulate, anthers are small, oval; disk is glabrous; ovary is spherical, about 1mm in diameter, glabrous, style is lateral, about 0.5mm long, stigma is shield-shaped. The drupe is oval or ovate, 10-15mm long, 8-10mm wide, glabrous, flattened, and the mesocarp has red gelatinous mucus. There is one seed, oblong.
