[Original form] Fragrant Artemisia balsamifera, sturdy herb or subshrub, 0.5-3m tall. Stem woody, branched, coarsely grooved, viscous tomentose or upper inflorescence axis densely pubescent, mixed with glandular hairs. There are often bundles of white or dirty white rough hairs in the axils of leaves, with internodes about 5 cm long and shorter in the lower part; the lower leaves are nearly sessile, obovate, oblanceolate or elliptic, 20-22 cm long, 6-8 cm wide, with short pointed tips, gradually narrowed bases, with irregular coarse and fine serrations on the edges, and 3-5 fine teeth between the two coarse teeth, sparsely rough hairs on the upper side, and rough hairs on the lower side, the hairs on the veins are denser, mixed with many glands, and there are 10-16 pairs of lateral veins; the middle leaves are obovate-oblong or oblong, 12-18 cm long, 4-5 cm wide, gradually narrowed bases, decurrent, and sometimes more or less clasping the stems; the upper leaves are smaller, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate. There are many capitulums, sessile or with a 1-1.5cm long stalk, the stalk of the inflorescence is pubescent, mixed with curly glandular hairs, axillary and terminal, arranged in a large panicle with petioles; the involucre is cylindrical or nearly bell-shaped; the involucral bracts are 5-6 layers, green, the outer layer is oblong-lanceolate, with short soft hairs and glands on the back, the middle and inner layers are linear, with sparse hairs on the back; the receptacle is honeycomb and fringed; the flowers are yellow, the female flowers are mostly, the corolla apex is 2-3 toothed, and the lobes have glandular dots; the corolla of bisexual flowers is tubular, gradually widening upwards, and has glands. Achenes are cylindrical, with 12 ribs, covered with soft hairs, and the pappus is brown-red to light brown and rough-hairy. The flowering period is from October to March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on the edge of low mountain forests, barren slopes or valley roadsides.

[Properties] Property identification: This product is 60-100cm long, with branched stems, densely covered with gray-yellow sticky hairs and glandular hairs, light and brittle, easy to break, round cross-section, thin cortex, white pith, which occupies most of the stem. The base of the old stem is lignified, dark brown and hard. Simple leaves are alternate, complete leaves are obovate or elliptic-oblanceolate, 8-20cm long, 3-6cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, decurrent at the base, sometimes with lobes, finely serrated edges, covered with sparse rough hairs on the upper side and yellow-brown hairs on the lower side, which are more obvious at the veins. The head inflorescence is terminal or axillary and sparsely conical, the involucre is hemispherical or nearly bell-shaped, with 4-5 layers of bracts, oblong-lanceolate. Receptacle is honeycomb-shaped. After rubbing, it has a fresh fragrance and tastes spicy and slightly bitter.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; slightly bitter; warm

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind; remove dampness; relieve itching; stop bleeding. Mainly used for wind-cold-dampness arthralgia; joint pain; rash; eczema; skin itching; traumatic bleeding

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 6-12g; or soak in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount, decoct in water and wash; or mash and apply; or grind into powder and sprinkle.
