[Original form] Celeriac is a perennial herb, 20-70cm tall. The main root is cylindrical, 2-5cm long and fragrant. The petiole of the basal leaf is 5-26cm long, with a membranous leaf sheath at the base; the leaf blade is broadly triangular or nearly circular in outline, usually bipinnately divided or biternately pinnately compound, with 2-4 pairs of pinnae, notched on the pinnae margins, shallowly pinnately lobed to deeply pinnately lobed, with short petioles, the ultimate segment is ovate, oblong ovate or even ovate-lanceolate, with coarse serrations on the margins, covered with coarse white stiff hairs on both sides, sometimes only on the veins; the division shape of the stem leaves is the same as that of the basal leaves. Compound umbel terminal; peduncle 4-22cm long; involucral bracts 1-4, membranous, caducous; rays 3-5, 3-8cm long; involucral bracteoles 4-5, hairy on the back or margins. Usually reflexed; umbels with 1-6 fertile flowers, pedicels of sterile flowers are filiform and short; petals are obovate, with an incurved ligule at the apex; filaments are shorter than petals; style is slightly longer than stylobase; ovary is covered with folded, flat, soft hairs. The fruit is linear or clavate, 1-2.5 cm long, with a tail-like point at the base and prickly ridges; the fruit is rounded pentagonal in cross section, and the ventral surface of the endosperm is concave. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under hillside forests at an altitude of 250-1120m, in grass beside trees and roadsides.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g.
