[Alias] Begonia.

[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots and leaves of the plant Rhizoma Cibotii of the family Garciniaaceae.

[Original form] Red thick-shelled evergreen tree, 5-12m tall. The bark is dark brown or gray-brown, smooth; young branches are cylindrical. Simple leaves are opposite; petioles are stout, 1-2.5cm long; leaf blades are thick leathery, elliptical or broadly elliptical, 8-15cm long, 4-8cm wide, with obtuse, rounded or slightly emarginate apex, obtuse or broadly cuneate base, entire or wavy margin, shiny on both sides, midrib concave at the apex, raised beneath, lateral veins dense and nearly perpendicular to the midrib, raised on both sides. Inflorescence raceme or sometimes panicle, growing in upper leaf axils, shorter than leaves; flowers bisexual, white, fragrant, 1.8-2.5cm in diameter; pedicel 3-4cm long; 4 sepals, 2 outer ones smaller, concave at tip, 2 inner ones larger, petal-shaped; 4 petals; many stamens, filaments fused into 4 bundles at base; ovary close; round, stalked, style much longer than stamens, stigma shield-shaped. The drupe is spherical, 2.5-3cm in diameter, yellow when ripe, and fleshy.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in sparse forests in mountains or often cultivated.

[Chemical composition] The seeds contain calonhyllolide, calophyllic acid, inophyllolide, inophylloidi Cid A, A2, A3, B1, B2, calophynicacid, leucocyanidin, mesuaxanthone B, calophyllin B. The immature seeds contain cinnamic acid, ponnalide and calaustralin.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; neutral

【Meridian】 Liver; Lung

【Functions and indications】Removing blood stasis and relieving pain. Mainly used for rheumatic pain, traumatic injury, dysmenorrhea, and traumatic bleeding

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 3-10g. For external use: Take appropriate amount of fresh leaves and mash them for application.
