[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the Lamiaceae plant Ipomoea batatas.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 0.3-1.5m high. The rhizome is enlarged, knobby and woody. The stem is erect, quadrangular, and covered with soft hairs. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 0.2-2.5cm long; leaf blade is ovate-round, ovate or lanceolate, 0.8-11cm long, 0.7-3.5cm wide, apex is gradually pointed, acute or obtuse, base is cuneate and extends below petiole, margin is crenate above base, both sides are covered with short soft hairs, sometimes nearly glabrous, and all have glandular dots. The dichotomous cyme is many-flowered, forming a terminal, sparse panicle; the bracts are ovate or needle-shaped, small but more prominent; the calyx is bell-shaped, about 2.5mm long, covered with very short stiff hairs or nearly glabrous on the outside, and has glandular dots, the calyx teeth are 5, triangular, and nearly equal, the corolla is white, blue-white or purple, about 7mm long, covered with short soft hairs on the outside, glabrous on the inside, the upper lip is outward-reflected, with 4 round lobes at the apex, and the lower lip is broadly round and concave like a boat; the stamens are 4, didyna, and hidden; the ovary is 4-lobed, the style is equal to the stamens, and the stigma is 2-lobed; the disk is cup-shaped. The nutlets are oval and brown. The flowering period is from June to October, and the fruiting period is from July to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in moist places under forests or in grass at an altitude of 200-920m.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; removes blood stasis and relieves pain. Mainly used for poisonous snake bites; sores, boils, swellings and poisons; muscle and bone pain; traumatic injuries; burns
