[Original form] Catalpa ovata is a small tree, 8-12cm tall. The trunk is straight and the branches point straight upwards. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 2-8cm long; leaf blade is triangular ovate or ovate-oblong, 6-15cm long, up to 8cm wide, with long acuminate tip, truncated and broad cuneate base, sometimes with 1-2 teeth at the base, dark green on the leaf surface, glabrous on the back. The terminal umbel raceme has 2-12 flowers; the calyx is spherical when tightened, with 2 lips split and 2 sharp teeth at the tip; the corolla is light pink with 2 yellow stripes and dark purple spots on the inside, 3-3.5cm long; the stamens are 4, didyna; the ovary is superior, with 1 style and 2-lobed stigma. The capsule is linear, 25-45cm long and about 6mm wide. The seeds are narrowly oval, about 1 cm long and 2 mm wide, with a row of long white hairs clustered at both ends. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from June to October.
