[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the Asteraceae plant.

[Original form] Cigarette pipe grass is a perennial herb, 50-100cm tall. The stem is erect, branched, and covered with long white hairs, with denser hairs on the upper part. The lower leaves are spoon-shaped and oblong, 9-20 (-25) cm long, 4-6 cm wide, with acute or obtuse tips, and the base is cuneately contracted into a winged petiole, with irregular serrations on the edges, and white long soft hairs and glandular dots on both sides; the middle leaves gradually become smaller upwards, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, with short petioles. The capitula is solitary at the top of the stems and branches, 15-18mm in diameter, drooping, with several linear-lanceolate bracts of unequal length at the base; the involucre is cup-shaped, 7-8mm long; the involucre has 4 layers, the outer layer is ovate-oblong, with long soft hairs, the middle and inner layers are membranous, oblong, blunt-pointed, and glabrous; the flowers are yellow, the outer female flowers are tubular, 3-5-toothed, and strong; the central bisexual flowers have 5 lobes. Achenes are linear, about 5mm long, with thin longitudinal stripes, a short beak and glandular dots at the tip, and no pappus. Flowering period is autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on roadsides, hillside grasslands and forest edges.

[Properties] Property identification: The stem has fine longitudinal lines, the surface is green or dark brown, covered with white hairs, the broken surface is rough, the cortex is highly fibrous, the pith is loose, and the outermost layer of epidermis is easy to peel off. The leaves are mostly broken and incomplete, with fine hairs on both sides. The head inflorescence is borne at the top of the branches, and the pedicels are bent downward and almost hanging. Flowers yellow-brown. It has a fragrant smell, bitter taste and is slightly spicy.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; pungent; cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; reduces swelling and relieves pain. It is mainly used for colds and fevers; high fever and convulsions; sore throat; rib pain; toothache; urinary tract infection; lymph node tuberculosis; sores, furunculosis, and gland inflammation in dairy cows.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-15g, fresh product 15-30g; or mashed into juice. For external use: appropriate amount, crush fresh product and apply; decoct in water and gargle or wash
