[Source] Medicinal material source: The seeds of Torreya grandis L. of the Taxaceae family.

[Original form] A tree, up to 20m tall, with a chest circumference of 1m. The bark is light brown or gray-brown, with irregular longitudinal cracks. One to three year old branchlets are green, light yellow, yellow, light brown or light yellow brown. The leaves are twisted and arranged in two rows at the base; the leaves are linear or lanceolate-linear, 2-3.6 cm long and 3-4 mm wide, often curved upwards at the top, slightly sickle-shaped, gradually pointed at the apex, with long thorn-like tips, broadly cuneate at the base, light green above, without a distinct midrib, with two longitudinal grooves often reaching below the middle and upper part, the stomata below are brown, equal in width to or slightly narrower than the midrib, and the side bands are 2-3 times wider than the stomata bands. Dioecious, male cones are solitary in leaf axils, oval in shape; female cones are paired in leaf axils, sessile. The seeds are nearly spherical, with a diameter of about 2 cm including the aril, with a raised short tip at the tip. The seed coat is woody or bony, the outer skin is smooth, and the inner wall has two opposite longitudinal ridges. The endosperm is deeply wrinkled, with a longitudinal groove on each side that fits into the longitudinal ridges on the inner wall of the seed coat.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on high mountains at an altitude of 2000-3400m. It is a common forest tree species and prefers a warm, cool and humid climate and acidic brown forest soil.
