[Source] Medicinal material source: The stem bark of the Thymelaeaceae plant.

[Original form] A deciduous shrub with hairy flowers, up to 1m tall, with thick, light yellow roots and white inner bark. The stem is reddish brown, the bast is fibrous, the branchlets are slender, and covered with white soft hairs. The older branches are yellow and glabrous. Leaves are opposite, nearly opposite or alternate, papery; oblong or lanceolate, 1.5-3.8cm long, 0.7-1.8cm wide, pointed at the apex, broadly cuneate or cuneate at the base, slightly curled at the edge, entire, dark green above, pink-green below, covered with long white hairs on both sides; lateral veins 3-5 pairs, protruding. Flowers bisexual, neat, almost sessile; several flowers form a terminal short raceme; bractless; perianth tubular, yellow, about 1cm long, sparsely pubescent; calyx fusiform, with 10 veins, densely pubescent on the outside, lobes 5, lobes broadly ovate or elliptic, 1-1.2mm long; stamens 10, arranged in 2 whorls, upper and lower whorls respectively attached to the throat and upper middle part of the perianth tube, filaments short; disk usually split into 2 or 4 scales; ovary superior, obovate or elliptic, apex covered with light yellow pubescence or glabrous, style short, stigma large, nearly spherical, drupe ovate or elliptic, adnately covered with white pubescence, about 6mm long, bright red or purple-black when ripe, flowering May-June, fruiting August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in relatively moist bushes on hillsides and foothills.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; slightly pungent; cold; slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】 Expel water and reduce swelling; detoxify and resolve stagnation. Mainly used for edema; sores and swelling

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1.5-4.5g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
