[Source] This product is the dried mature peel (Zanthoxylum schinifolium Sieb. et Zucc.) or Sichuan pepper (Shu pepper, Sichuan pepper, red pepper, red pepper, Dahongpao) Zantho xylum bungeanum Maxim. of the Rutaceae family , which is used as medicine. The ripe fruits are harvested in autumn, impurities are removed and dried. Set aside separately from the seeds.

[Properties] Green pepper: mostly 2 to 3 small fruits that are free on the upper part and clustered on the small fruit stalks. The follicles are spherical and crack along the ventral suture, with a diameter of 3 to 4 mm. The outer surface is gray-green or dark green, with numerous oil spots and fine network-like raised wrinkles; the inner surface is white and smooth. The endocarp is often separated from the exocarp by the base. The remaining seeds are oval, 3 to 4 mm long, 2 to 3 mm in diameter, and black and shiny on the surface. It has a fragrant aroma and tastes slightly sweet and spicy.

[Identification] Take 2g of the powder, add 10ml of ether, shake thoroughly, soak overnight, filter, and evaporate the filtrate to about 1ml as the test solution. Take another 2 g of Zanthoxylum bungeanum as a reference medicinal material and prepare a reference medicinal material solution in the same manner. According to the thin layer chromatography method (Appendix Ⅵ B), 5 μl of each of the above two solutions were taken and spotted on the same silica gel G thin layer plate, and n-hexane-ethyl acetate (4:1) was used as the developing agent. The plate was developed, taken out, dried, and examined under ultraviolet light (365 nm). In the test sample chromatogram, the same main red fluorescent spot appears at the corresponding position in the control medicinal material chromatogram.

【Functions and indications】Warms the middle and relieves pain, kills insects and relieves itching. Used for cold pain in the abdomen, vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain caused by worms, ascariasis; external treatment of eczema and itching.

【Usage and Dosage】 3 to 6 g. Apply appropriate amount externally and decoct it for fumigation and washing.
