[Source] It is the root, root bark or bark of Euonymus grandiflora of the Celastraceae family. Available all year round.

[Original form] Evergreen tree or shrub, up to 10 meters tall. The bark is gray-black; the twigs are cylindrical, gray-green, and have white threads when broken; the young branches are yellow-green and have four edges. The leaves are simple, opposite, thinly leathery, obovate to obovate-oblong, or elliptical to oblong-elliptical, with evenly serrated edges, dark green above, light green below, glabrous on both sides, with the main vein on the below obviously raised; the petiole is about 0.5 to 1 cm long. The inflorescence is axillary, with 5 to 9 flowers, and the peduncle is up to 5 cm long; the flowers are large, white, up to 2 cm in diameter, and 4-digitate; the petals are round with wrinkles on the surface; the stamens have slender filaments; each locule of the ovary has 6 to 12 ovules. The capsule has 4 sharp edges and is yellow when ripe. The seeds are black with a dark red aril. Flowering period is from May to June. Fruiting period is from July to September.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in bushes on hillsides or on the edge of forests in valleys, and is commonly found in limestone mountains. Distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan and other places.

[Chemical composition] The root bark and bark contain hard rubber, with the content in the bark being 3.38-17.25%.

【Functions and indications】 Treats low back pain, amenorrhea due to blood stasis, and dysmenorrhea.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat low back pain: one liang of Euonymus grandiflora bark or root bark, one liang of Dahuoxue, and one liang of Cudrania tricuspidata root. Add wine and boil, take three times a day.
